Dear JBA families, 

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Although this year will look different from previous years, we are committed to making this a great year of learning for each of our JBA scholars. 

The next 3 days, Wednesday, September 16th, Thursday, September 17th and Friday, September 18th will be focused on providing opportunities for staff and scholars to get to know one another, orientation on platforms that will be utilized in the classrooms, and general safety protocols. We would like to check in with families to see how everyone is doing and to see what questions our scholars may have around technology, scheduling etc. These first three days provide an opportunity to have these conversations and to answer questions that may arise. 

Your scholar will access their townhalls and breakout groups through their email account. Please make sure tomorrow morning your scholar checks their email and follows the appropriate schedule times. You may notice in the schedule that there are three days of meetings, please do not worry if some of the links for upcoming days are inactive. Teachers will ensure that they are activated by the time the workshop is scheduled. 

Your scholars should also receive their schedules in the upcoming days. Each student will receive three schedules, labeled Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3. Please make sure your scholar is aware of which schedule is to be followed for the week as it will determine which day they are in person or receiving live classes. For example, next week, September 21, we will follow the Week 1 schedule. Teachers will assist your scholars in understanding how to navigate the schedule in person and remotely. 

Attendance is to be taken remotely. Please make sure your scholar fills in the attendance survey which must be accessed through their school account. For the first 3 days they only need to provide us with their student ID, first and last name.

Priority Testing for School-Based Staff and Students

  Testing at 22 Health and Hospital (H+H) testing sites during the 2020-2021 school year is being prioritized for all

  • Department of Education students in 3K through grade 12
  • Department of Education employees,
  • Employees of Department of Education contracted early childhood programs, and affiliated family child care networks
  • Employees of Department of Education- and Department of Youth and Community Development-contracted Learning Bridges programs
